History

BASAMRO Logistics Group always strives to improve relations with its trading partners world-wide.

In the year 2013, when the Netherlands and the Russian Federation have been celebrating 400 years of diplomatic ties, we focused our attention on improving relations with our Russian partners.

The same year we have organized the first BASAMRO International Youth Chess Tournament with a great deal of support of the Royal Dutch Chess Federation and Pathena Chess Foundation. The two-day competition was hosted on board the former ocean liner and cruise ship SS Rotterdam, also known as “The Grande Dame”. Four teams, including a team from Murmansk, participated. Each team consisted of eight players with FIDE ratings between 1400 and 2100, who contended in three rounds. We were also had the privilege to welcome the World Chess Champion, grandmaster, Jan Timman, as our VIP guest. Mr. Timman gave a masterclass and played a simultaneous match with all young participants of the tournament.

The second BASAMRO International Youth Chess Tournament had taken place on May 2014 in Murmansk, Russia, where teams from the Netherlands, Murmansk, Arkhangelsk and Kaliningrad have obtained the first, second, third and fourth place respectively. We take special pride in the fact that the twelfth World Chess Champion
Anatoly Karpov, for whom it was also his first visit to Murmansk, was our honorary guest that year.

The third BASAMRO International Youth Chess Tournament was, unsurprisingly, held in Rotterdam. This competition was marked by the expansion of geographic scope of the participating teams. Along with regular participants, teams from Rotterdam and Murmansk, junior teams from Great Britain (The National Chess Junior Squad) and France (International Chess Team) took part in the third tournament. Paris has taken the first place, Rotterdam – the second, Murmansk – the third and Great Britain – the fourth. Dimitri Reinderman, a Dutch chess grandmaster and a former champion of the Netherlands, was a guest of honor of the Tournament 2015.

The fourth BASAMRO International Youth Chess Tournament, hosted in Murmansk during the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the capital of the Arctic Circle, was the most spectacular in terms of participants and invited guests. Teams from Murmansk, Rotterdam, Paris, Sussex, Novorossiysk and Leningrad Region competed with each other. Anatoly Karpov and Jan Timman played a mini tournament Super Match in which, for the first time in the history of their face-to-face games, victory went to the Dutch grandmaster. Leningrad Region Team won the Youth Tournament. GTRK Murman released a Special News Edition dedicated to the tournament. Click the link below to watch it now:

Four participating teams will take part in the fifth BASAMRO International Youth Chess Tournament in 2017. It is remarkable that all these teams were the cup holders one or another year of the competition, meaning that this year there will be a team that will win BASAMRO cup for the second time. The Tournament will be hosted by Maritiem Museum Rotterdam. We invite and welcome everyone interested in the Tournament and the Exhibition!
